Bhangra DVD?

Hello!
As I find myself falling head over heels in love with Bhangra, after having enjoyed the MADAD performance last October and have now attended my first nonstop Bhangra event in January. . .I find myself wondering if there are any recommendations for Bhangra DVDs? I tell friends and family about it, I try to show them what I learned. . .but alas, I fear I'm not doing it justice (judging by the squirrelly looks I’m getting)!! My intention is to start taking the Dholrythms classes down in Sunnyvale, as soon as another class I'm in finishes up later this month. In the meantime, I've been searching for a good Bhangra performance DVD or even a Bhangra "workout" DVD to tide me over. Any suggestions?

Thank you!!

^..^

PS I’ve got a couple good CDs already, it’s the visuals I seem to be lacking. . . ; )

    Hi CiaoMeow..
I have two DVD's. One is by Sarina Jain called "Bhangra Jam Workout". She combines bhangra with cardiovascular workout. So it seems more like a workout DVD, than a DVD for a person who wants to learn to dance in a social setting, but I still like it. The other one I have is by Honey Kalaria and is called "Bollywood Workout" and is also a "Bhangracise" workout video. I haven't had time to view this one. She is one of UK's leading Bollywood choreographers. Also, buying DVD's of Bhangra music videos is fun too. You are in Sunnyvale, and there are tons of places to buy DVD's. On El Camino and Henderson is Sur Sangeet (a store with strickly music and films) and also across the street is East West, a general store, but they have DVDs in the side room. I don't know how extensive their Bhangra selections are but I have been to Sur Sangeet in Fremont and they had a good supply. The DVDs are full of videos of all the Bhangra hits and you can catch alot of dance moves from here and you will see it performed in a dance style rather than the workout style in the two above mentioned DVDs. I get my DVDs rom Ebay mostly or you can try Amazon. Just type in Bhangra in your search field and select DVD's or CDs and you should get some search results. Watch it for awhile. Some dealers have prices that are close to retail. You wanna keep your eye out for a single individual who is selling it at a better price. Well, have fun!

      Hi CiaoMeow,
There's a store near you in Belmont called Namaste Plaza - next to the Walgreens at El Camino & Ralston. I bet they'd have some Bhangra music videos to rent/buy.

Rockin'! Thanks for the tips, Therese! I just received the Honey Kalaria DVD, got it nice and cheap on Amazon. I haven't popped it in yet, though I'm looking forward to it.

      Ciao!

Hey Ciao!! Where are you?? Did you get out and find some DVD's? If you come to the Sunnyvale class, you can go down a couple blocks on El Camino and hit either Sur Sangeet (Indian DVD/CD store) or East/West across the street and pick up some of the DVD's there. Although they are not instructional, the DVD's you can get there are like "Best of Bhangra Music Videos" - tons of hits by top artists. I like to watch the videos to see the dancing! Also, I had heard some girls talking about wanting to get some CDs and thought nothing of it, but yesterday I remember last year I used to listen to APNA radia on my computer...it might be under UK Bhangra... I think I accessed it through Rhapsody, (they have tons of other radio stations you can listen to). I am sure there are other sites you can get access to music, but this is one I know that I enjoyed...
              anyway..
              Namaste..
              hope to see you soon!
              Therese

I just released a series of Dances of India Instructionsl DVD's, out of which 2 of them have Bhangra instruction and workout. You can view a demo video on www.AkashaProductions.tv and order it there, as well!
    Best of luck!

If you are looking to learn some hot Bhangra moves you should check out a new Bhangra DVD on the market called Bhangra Beats: Round 1. It teaches you over 20 different moves. Check out videos from the DVD at www.bhangrabeats.org. These moves are the real deal!
